On January 19, 2008, C and I said our wedding vows at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. In the fifteen years since then, we’ve moved halfway across the country, welcomed our two daughters into our family and watched them become adolescents, and grew in our careers.

Our lives are busy, but we wanted to take some time to celebrate the life we created together. Frankly, we were also tired. Unrelenting work travel and a full family schedule meant that we were always on the run. We needed a little R&R, so we decided to travel to the Dominican Republic for a few days of relaxing in the sun.
We had never been to the Dominican Republic before, nor had we ever been to an all-inclusive resort. As my children will begrudgingly tell you, we always end up either “hiking or learning things” on vacation. Since the goal of this trip, though, was just to be still for a few days and enjoy each other’s company during this busy season of work and parenting, we thought we’d give the Breathless Punta Cana Resort and Spa a try.

Over the course of our time there we ate, we swam, we read, we ate some more, and we enjoyed the warm waters of the Caribbean and the schadenfreude of skipping out on a Nebraska winter. Most importantly, we enjoyed spending time together.

While our family vacations undoubtedly still will involve “hiking and learning things,” we enjoyed spending a few days celebrating our 15 years of marriage and raising a toast to many more to come.
